A medical pioneer whose work transcends all boundaries
In 2005 Barry J. Marshall and J. Robin Warren were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in recognition of their 1982 discovery that a bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, causes one of the most common and important diseases of mankind, peptic ulcer disease. Affecting 50% of the global population, H.pylori is recognized as the most common chronic infection in the world. “Like a trail of crumbs, the DNA of our Helicobacter pylori can show where we were born and where our ancestors traveled from over the past 60,000 years” says Marshall.
In 1998 Marshall was made a Fellow of the Royal Society. In 2008 he was elected as a Foreign Member of the prestigious US National Academy of Science, an institution that was established in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln.

Professor Klinken is a leading Western Australian medical research scientist, highly regarded for his work in advancing the understanding of genes involved in leukaemia, cancer and anaemia. His many research achievements include the discovery of a gene that suppresses the growth of tumours. His previous roles have included professor in Clinical Biochemistry at The University of Western Australia; Director of Research at the Royal Perth Hospital; and the Director of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research (previously the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research). He also spear-headed the development of two new state-of-the-art medical research facilities, Perkins North in Nedlands (QEII Medical Centre) and Perkins South in Murdoch (Fiona Stanley Hospital).
3. Dongyuan Zhao 赵东元院士

Professor Dongyuan Zhao is a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and The Third World Academy of Science (TWAS), Council Member of IZA, President of International Mesostructured Materials Association (IMMA). He has received many awards such as CRN Rao Award from India Chemical Research Society (2013); Muetterties Memory Award (2012); The Ho Leung Ho Lee Award (2009), TWAS Prize (2008); IMMS Award (2008); DuPond Award (2005).
He is now appointed as senior Editor of ACS Central Science; he serviced as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Materials Chemistry, and co-editor of Journal of Colloid and Interface Science. He published more than 550 peer-review papers, 40 patents and is listed as one of highly cited researchers ISI in both Chemistry and Materials Science fields (Total citation ~ 58,000, h index 116). His research interests mainly include designed synthesis, assembly, structure and application of ordered mesoporous materials.
4. PROFESSOR MANCHAO HE 何满潮院士
CHINA UNIVERSITY OF MINING AND TECHNOLOGY
ACADEMICIAN, CHINESE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
Manchao He is currently an Academician in Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor at China University of Mining and Technology, Beijing (CUMTB). He is also the Director of State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics and Deep Underground Engineering in Beijing, China. He is recognized as the leader of the Chinese Union for Mining Innovation (CUMI). And he served as the Vice President of International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM), Chairman of ISRM Education Fund Committee. He mainly engaged in the research of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, including mining technologies, rockburst mechanism, landslide, active fault stability analysis, monitoring and control, etc. He has published 10 books and over 190 papers in technical journals and in conference proceedings. He also serves on the Editorial Board of several Journals, and received 5 National Prizes and awards in his career.
5. Professor Yanliang Du 杜彦良院士

Prof Du received his Ph.D from Beihang University, China in 1993. His main research interests include structural health monitoring and safety control, railway safety monitoring and reliability evaluation, intelligent structure etc. He carried out leading research in various China rail transit projects including the national high-speed railway, the heavy haul railway, the railway in cold and plateau area, the sped-up existing railway and the urban railway. Prof Du received many awards including the First Prize and the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Development Awards, the First Prize of Ministerial and Provincial-Level Science and Technology Awards, the First Prize and the Second Prize of National Teaching Achievement Awards, Science and Technology Awards of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation. He also obtained honorary titles of National Outstanding Professional and Technical Personnel and National Outstanding Teacher.
6. Professor Hanlong Liu 刘汉龙校长
VICE PRESIDENT OF CHONGQING UNIVERSITY
Prof. Hanlong Liu is of professor fellowship of Changjiang Scholar Program and also the recipient of China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists. He has worked as a panel member of the consecutive 6th and 7th Scientific Advisory Board for the State Academic Council of China.
Prof Liu is a leading expert and has pioneered research on soil improvement and foundation engineering, soil dynamics and geotechnical earthquake engineering, winning in all 14 state and provincial awards, including Second prize of National Technological Innovation Award, Second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, First prize of Ministry of Education Technology Invention Award, First prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by Ministry of Education, and so forth.
Prof Liu serves for the following technical committees and academic organizations: Vice Chairman of ISSMGE Coastal and River Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation (TC303), Committee member of Land Reclamation Technique (TC217), Executive Director of Chinese Institute of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Director-General of the Environmental Geotechnics branch, Deputy director of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and head of the MOE Changjiang Scholars Innovation Team.
